Local History

According to archaeologists, this area of Puerto Rico has been populated since about 30 BC. There were natives here even before the Tainos that had the misfortune of encountering Mr. Columbus. Of course when the Spaniards saw it, they just had to have it for themselves. They called it Cabo Rojo (Red Cape) probably because of the reddish color of the local salt flats, the reddish tint of the seaside cliffs and it's beautiful reddish sunsets. The French, the British and the Dutch all spent some time in this area. And according to certain historians, the Chinese in 1421 under the command of Admiral Zhao Wen passed through during his exploring. I am so fortunate to have been born into a family that has longstanding roots in one of the most beautiful places on this lovely planet of ours.
